Dultfest in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany

How about talking about German fairs and festivals this time. I have been to a lot of festivals in Germany. To name a few are the famous and biggest fair in the world which is Oktoberfest in Munich, Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing, Landshuter Hochzeit in Landshut, Tillyfest in Breitenbrunn, Neumarkter Volksfest, and some other more.

This time, I am talking about Dultfest in Regensburg, a city in Bavaria, Germany. I am trying to find out what does Dult means but it seems that I cannot find its real meaning in English. Dultfest which is composed of two words, dult and fest in which Dult, I believed is simply a name given to this festival (fest in German). Regensburg is celebrating every year two Dultfest. One is called the Maidult which is celebrated every month of May. The other one is the Herbstdult which is celebrated during the month of September. The one that I witnessed last time was the Herbstdult.

We happened to visit Regenburg last May 2009 but we never bother going to the festival. I am hoping that we will visit Maidult next month. Maidult fun fair is considered to be one of the first big festival of the year in Bayern or Bavaria. Unlike Oktoberfest wherein beer consumption is very famous, Dultfest is considered to be a family fun festival. Here are some photos taken last year from Herbstdult in Regensburg.
