I Love Green Clean Bavaria

This is one of the reasons why I love Germany especially in the state of Bavaria. It is a clean country with so many beautiful landscapes and scenery around. Bavaria is the largest federal state of Germany, located in the southeast of the country. Its location near the Alps plus Lederhosen and Dirndl tradition, the sausages and lots of beer made Bavaria as the top tourist destination in Germany.

I read before in a travel book that due to the love of cars of German people, they planted a lot of trees to make the air and surrounding cleaner. That is also the reason why you see a lot of trees in Germany especially in the Bavarian region. Most farmers and even ordinary people in Bavaria are using composter. The composts are being used in their farms and gardens. We also have a compost pit in our garden.

I love the landscape in Bavaria with its green surroundings and beautiful hills. This is one of the reasons why I feel in love with this region. This image was taken while we were on our way to Augsburg last 2009.

Oktoberfest 2010 is Coming Soon in Munich, Bavaria, Germany

I already posted some images and information about Oktoberfest in my other site, Travel and Explore Germany. Feel free to click the link to read more infos about the largest fair in the world that is held every year in Theresienwiese in Munich, the capital city of Bavaria, Germany. This year's celebration commemorates the 200th anniversary and will run from September 18 to October 3, 2010.

Here are some of the snapshots I took during our visit last September 2009.

Around six million of people visit Oktoberfest every year. Be careful if you are bringing your kids with you because there are truly a lot of people in the festival.

The original "Oktoberfest" occurred in Munich, on October 18, 1810: For the commemoration of their marriage, Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen (namesake of the Theresienwiese festival grounds) organized a great horse race (the marriage took place on October 12; the horse race on October 17—therefore, there are different dates named as being the first Oktoberfest).


MODERN FESTIVAL

Since 1950, there has been a traditional festival opening: A twelve gun salute and the tapping of the first keg of Oktoberfest beer at 12:00 by the incumbent Mayor of Munich with the cry "O'zapft is!" ("It's tapped!" in the Austro-Bavarian language) opens the Oktoberfest. The Mayor then gives the first beer to the Minister-President of the State of Bavaria. The first mayor to tap the keg was Thomas Wimmer.

By 1960, the Oktoberfest had turned into an enormous world-famous festival. After this foreigners began to picture Germans as wearing the Sennerhut, Lederhosen, and the girls in Dirndl. Horse races ended in 1960.

It is customary for people during the Oktoberfest to wear cowboy shaped hats, which contain a tuft of goat hair. In Germany, goat hair is highly valued and prized, making it one of the most expensive objects for sale. The more tufts of goat hair on your hat, the wealthier you are considered to be. But now, due to textiles and cheap imitations, this tradition has been ending because it is so easy to fake goat hair with the technology at our fingertips. more here

Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany

Let's go travel Europe again! This time we are visiting Germany's famous celebration! Don't you know that Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany is the world's biggest fair? Yes, it is! It is also considered as one of the famous events in Germany and considered to be a part of the Bavarian Culture. I remember that we also have an Oktoberfest at the town where I grew -up in the Philippines. It is also modeled after Munich's Oktoberfest. Millions of visitors from all over the world come to Munich to take part and witness the said celebration.

Oktoberfest is a two-week festival or a 16 day festival to be exact and is held every year during the last week of September until first week of October. I had been to this festival twice already. Below are some of the photographs I took last 2008. The festival is held on an area named the Theresienwiese (field, or meadow, of Therese), often called d’ Wiesn for short.

How I wish I can share more and more photos from the Oktoberfest 2009 in Munich, Germany. Sad to say I almost run-out of my allowed bandwidth for photo uploading. Here are some photos we took during our visit last Saturday. The festival is still going on and will last until October 4,2009. Have fun but don't drink too much beer! wink!

Did Shopping in Munich's Oktoberfest 2009

Don't you know that you can also go shopping in Munich's Oktoberfest? We visited this world's biggest beer festival last Saturday. We did some shopping and sightseeing there. You can go shopping for memorabilia ans souvenirs like shirts and blouses, postcards, mugs, glasses, key chains, stuff toys and a lot more. I bought some postcards and plate decors with Oktoberfest name engraved in it. There are also a lot of fast foods and kiosks that sell different kinds of German food and even delicacies from other countries. Sad to say, I cannot find Crystal Singing Bowls there. I guess I can only find it in the internet. I did find it in Silver Sky Imports.

Have you heard about Tibetian Singing Bowls? This is already my second time to search it in the net. I found it interesting because I read that it is good for relaxing and meditation. Silver Sky Imports offers handicraft products of different kinds from Tibet and Nepal. These products are usually used for meditation and relaxation and other needs. They are famous for their finest Tibetian Singing Bowls. I am happy to know that they cater customers from all over the world. Oktoberfest 2009 in Munich, Germany...I was There!

Hello everybody! I am finally in front of my PC. I guess it is time to share about our escapade yesterday in Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. It was an awesome experience visiting the biggest festival in the world. I can't imagine how many millions of people from all over the world had visited this celebration since its opening last September 19, 2009. Just yesterday, I estimated that there are more than a million of people who were there. All the beer tents were already closed because they were already filled with guests and visitors. I can't imagine if there are copper sinks that are being used in those beer tents. The Theresienwiese, where the famous Oktoberfest is held every year was full of people yesterday. It was really a great spectacle witnessing again this awesome festival. It seems that there is an internal error going on when uploading photos in blogger. I rode again the ferris wheel yesterday. I had a lot of fun! You can also see the Germans wearing the so-called Trachten and Lederhose. These are the national costumes of Germany.

Oktoberfest 2009 Begins Tomorrow

It's party time! The world's most renowned festival is finally here. Tomorrow will be the opening of Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Did you see how the people go partying inside the beer tents? This is only a small beer tent. They also have some that can occupy up to ten thousand people! Imagine that! This is very interesting! I will see you there!

Tillyfest in Breitenbrunn, Bavaria in Germany

I just posted some pictures and information about Tillyfest in my Travel and Explore Germany site. Feel free to visit there if you want to know more about this festival. Tillyfest is a festival in Breitenbrunn, a municipality in the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria, Germany. That was a very nice and friendly weather today especially during the historical parade that took place this afternoon. In this historical celebration, you can also find and experience the so-called Bavarian culture and tradition. There were also a lot of tents where some groups of participants stayed overnight for the duration of the two-day celebration, kiosks and stalls that sells local delicacies, wines, beers, historical clothes especially during the Medieval times, house decors, jewelries and a lot more.

Volksfest, Festival in Neumarkt, Bavaria, Germany

Good evening everyone! Let's talk about festival again. Life is just so short that we will not enjoy it. The picture below was taken during the parade of Neumarkt Volksfest in Bavaria, Germany. This celebration is also a part of Bavarian culture and tradition. It is a festival which is held in this city every year during the month of August. It usually last for a week. I guess it's been five consecutive years now that I always attend this festival. It is always fun and I love it. Last month was the first time that I witnessed their parade. I was amazed because more than hundreds of groups participated during the parade.

These horses below are huge and are also adorned with decorations. The white building you with the watch is the City Hall of Neumarkt. I was inside this building as the history of this city was told to us during my German language course. Have fun viewing the photos in this blog.

My Euro Travel in Herbstdult Festival in Regensburg, Germany

Another celebration is here again. Herbstdult Festival in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany is still going on until now. We had the chance to visit it last Saturday, September 5, 2009. The festival started last August 28, 2009 and runs until September 13, 2009. It is located in Dultplatz in Regensburg near Danube River. A lot of people visited the festival last weekend. There are three big beer tents in the place. There are also a lot of rides, games and different entertainments in the said celebration.

The weather in Germany is getting a little bit cold now, if ever you want to visit Herbstdult Festival, you better bring a good jacket with you unless you want to stay inside the beer tents all the time. Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing in Bavaria, Germany

Welcome to the second largest festival in Bavaria, Germany, the Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing. Actually guys this festival is already over. It is considered to be the second largest festival next to Oktoberfest of October Festival in Munich in the state of Bavaria. It is said that there are more than a million of guests and visitors who visit this festival every year. It is held in the middle of August and lasted for eleven days.

What caught most of my attention as we visited the festival was, a lot of German people wore the so-called Trachten, Dirdl and Lederhose which are considered to be the national costume of Germany. I also visited Oktoberfest in Munich last year but there were more people last month in Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing who wore Trachten, Dirdl and Lederhose or leather pants in this festival.

I truly appreciate and admire how the German people preserve their culture and tradition through festivals like these. More updates to come about this famous festival in Bavaria.

The Gäubodenvolksfest was founded by Maximilian I Joseph, King of Bavaria in the year 1812 as an agricultural festival to organize an annual meeting of the people in the Danube region.
