Flights to Romantic Amsterdam

Tulips in Keukenhof, Netherlands

Amsterdam, the capital city of Netherlands is the the fifth busiest tourist destination in Europe. Millions of visitors come to this romantic city to experience the fun, excitement and to see the beautiful sightseeing here. Amsterdam is also called the city of festivals with around 140 festivals every year. Amsterdam is also very rich in terms of architectural history. Its oldest building called het Houten which is built around 1425 is made of wood and still exist until now. Amsterdam airport is also known to be one of the busiest airport in Europe. I guess it is also because of the cheap prices given by airlines especially the ones departing from UK.

I am planning to visit my friend in Birmingham on his birthday this coming October. She had been inviting me since last year but due to some unavoidable circumstances, I wasn't able to go. Well, my husband had accident last year so I have to take care of him. Hopefully if I am coming to Birmingham, I want to go directly to Amsterdam. I am searching now for cheap Amsterdam flights departing from Birmingham.

I just visited Directline and they offer Amsterdam flights which is really very competitive. You can even have cheaper flights if you book it earlier. With British Airlines and Aer Lingus, you can even have cheap flights due to too much competition with cheap airline companies.

You can also find cheap flights to Amsterdam from any cities in UK like East Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds Bradford and more. It is even cheaper if you leave from small airports like Nottingham, Durham Tees, Exeter, Southampton and Norwich.

How about you?? Are you visiting this beautiful and romantic city?? Who knows I might see you there!! Why not visit Directline for your cheap and direct flight from any UK airports!! Enjoy your trip!!

Austrian Parliament in Vienna, Austira

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_Parliament_Building

The Austrian Parliament Building, (German: Parlament or Hohes Haus, formerly the Reichsratsgebäude), is where the two Houses of the Parliament of Austria conduct their sittings. The building lies at the Ringstraße in the first district Innere Stadt in Vienna, close by the Hofburg Imperial Palace and the Palace of Justice.

The main construction lasted from 1874 to 1883. The architect responsible for the building was Baron Theophil von Hansen, the building is an example of Greek revival. The architect von Hansen designed the building as an ensemble, where each piece harmonised with the rest. He was therefore also responsible for the interior decoration such as statues, paintings, furniture, chandeliers, and other elements. One of the building's most famous features is the statue of Athena and the fountain, a notable Viennese tourist attraction. Despite heavy damages and destruction during World War II, most of the interior has been restored to its original appearance.

The parliament building covers over 13,500 square meters, making it one of the largest structures on the Ringstraße. It was constructed to house the two chambers of the Reichsrat, the legislature of the Austrian part (Cisleithania) of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today, the parliament building is seat of the National Council (Nationalrat) and the Federal Council (Bundesrat). It contains over 100 rooms, the most important of which are the Chambers of the National Council, the Federal Council and the former imperial House of Representatives (Abgeordnetenhaus). The building also includes committee rooms, libraries, lobbies, dining-rooms, bars and gymnasiums. It is the site of important state ceremonies, most notably the swearing-in ceremony of the President of Austria and the state speech on National Day on each October 26. The building is very closely associated with the two Houses, as shown by the use of "Hohes Haus" as a metonym for "Parliament". Parliamentary offices overspill into nearby buildings such as the Palais Epstein.

a bit info about Salzburg from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salzburg

Salzburg is the fourth-largest city in Austria and the capital of the federal state of Salzburg. Salzburg's "Old Town" with its world famous baroque architecture is one of the best-preserved city centres in the German-speaking world, and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city is noted for its Alpine setting. It is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the setting for parts of the musical and film The Sound of Music, which features famous landmarks in Austria, but focuses mainly on Salzburg. Salzburg is also a student city, with three universities.

Geography:

Salzburg is on the banks of the Salzach river, at the northern boundary of the Alps. The mountains to Salzburg's south contrast with the rolling plains to the north. The closest alpine peak – the 1972 m Untersberg – is only a few kilometres from the city centre. The Altstadt, or "old town", is dominated by its baroque towers and churches and the massive Festung Hohensalzburg. This area is surrounded by two smaller mountains, the Mönchsberg and Kapuzinerberg as the green lung of the city. Salzburg is approximately 150 km east of Munich, Germany, and 300 km west of Vienna.

Siegestor in Munich, Germany

I took this photo as we went to Munich last June 2007. I'm feeling like I was in Paris seeing the the Arc de Triomphe. We passed this way as we went to the U.S Embassy for my visa interview. Now I don't need to have a visitor's visa in going to the U.S. being a German citizen already. I just got my German citizenship last December 2007. Germany is already my new home and I really love it here!!

some info about Siegestor from Wikipedia..thanks for this info!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siegestor

The Siegestor (en: Victory Gate) in Munich, is a three-arched triumphal arch crowned with a statue of Bavaria with a lion-quadriga, similar in style to the Arch of Constantine in Rome, the Marble Arch in London, the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. It is located between the university and the Ohmstraße, on the intersection of the Leopoldstraße and the Ludwigstraße. Therefore it divides the two Munich districts of Maxvorstadt and Schwabing.

The gate was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria, designed by Friedrich von Gärtner and completed in 1852. The quadriga was created by Martin Wagner. The gate was originally dedicated to the glory of the Bavarian army (dem bayerischen Heere zum Ruhme). Today the Siegestor is a monument and reminder to peace. After sustaining heavy damage in World War II, the gate was - similar to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in Berlin - reconstructed and restored only partially. The inscription on the back side is by Wilhelm Hausenstein and reads Dem Sieg geweiht, vom Krieg zerstört, zum Frieden mahnend, which translates as "Dedicated to victory, destroyed by war, reminding of peace". In the last couple of years, the statues that remained were meticulously cleaned and restored.

Keukenhof, Amsterdam

Keukenhof, the place where I want to go next time..My friend juts shared some photos from this very nice Garden Paradise!!! I love plants and flowers very much and seeing places like this really interest me..I'll see you next time Keukenhof..

Happy day to all!!

the beautiful tulips in Keukenhof Garden

flowers plantation in Keukenhof

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keukenhof

Keukenhof (pronounced [ˈkøːkənˌhɔf], in Dutch: Kitchen garden), also known as the Garden of Europe is situated near Lisse, Netherlands, and is the world's largest flower garden. According to the official website for the Keukenhof Park, there are approximately 7,000,000 (seven million) flower bulbs planted annually at the park.

Keukenhof is located in South Holland between the towns of Hillegom and Lisse, south of Haarlem and southwest of Amsterdam. It is accessible by bus from the stations of Haarlem or Leiden. It is located in an area called the "Dune and Bulb Region" (Duin- en Bollenstreek).

The flower garden was the idea in 1949 of the then-mayor of Lisse, a small town south of Amsterdam. The idea was to have a flower exhibit where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could show off their hybrids which will help the Netherlands as it is the world's largest exporter of flowers. Keukenhof has been the world's largest flower garden for over fifty years.

Keukenhof is open annually from the last week of March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather. In 2008 the Keukenhof will be open from March 20 to May 18.

Passau, Germany

Passau which is known as the City of Three Rivers. It is also one of Germany's interesting city. We visited this city last May 2007. We went walking around and was fascinated by the beauty of the place. Looking to its old and historical buildings is also very interesting for me because of my interest in history. I was greatly amazed by the fresco of their Cathedral known as the St. Stephan Dom (cathedral). The paintings on the ceilings are just very magnificent and so beautiful. I had been to the different churches and cathedrals in Germany like the famous one in Cologne, Wuerzburg, Nuremberg, Munich, etc. but this one is for me is the most beautiful with regards to design and art. Truly amazing!!! I love this place..hope to be back again next time..

hope you see more next time of the different places in Europe especially to the ones where I had been to...see you later friends!!! keep visiting!!

the very beautiful fresco of St. Stephan Cathedral. That is the famous organ in Passau which is considered to be the biggest around the world.

Some little info from my friend in the net, Wikipedia about Passau, Germany

Passau (Latin: Batavis or Batavia, also Passavium; Italian: Passavia; Czech: Pasov) is a town in Lower Bavaria, Eastern Bavaria, Germany, known also as the Dreiflüssestadt (City of Three Rivers), because the Danube is joined there by the Inn from the South, and the Ilz coming out of the Bavarian Forest to the North.

Its population is 50,415, of whom about 10,000 are students at the local University of Passau. The university, founded in the late 1970s, is the extension of the Institute for Catholic Studies (Katholisch-Theologische Fakultät) founded in 1622. It is renowned in Germany for its institutes of Economics, Law, Theology, Computer Sciences and Cultural Science.

Main Sights

Tourism in Passau focuses mainly on the three rivers, the St. Stephen's Cathedral (Der Passauer Stephansdom) and the "Old City" (Die Altstadt). With 17,774 pipes, the organ at St. Stephen's was long held to be the largest church pipe organ in the world and is today second in size only to the organ at First Congregational Church, Los Angeles, which was expanded in 1994. Organ concerts are held daily between May and September. St.Stephen is a true masterpiece of Italian Baroque, built by Italian architect Carlo Lurago and decorated in part by Carpoforo Tencalla. Many river cruises down the Danube start at Passau and there is a cycling path all the way down to Vienna. It is also notable for its gothic and baroque architecture. The town is dominated by the Veste Oberhaus and the former fortress of the Bishop, on the mountain crest between the Danube and the Ilz rivers. Right beside the town hall is the Scharfrichterhaus, an important jazz and cabaret stage on which political cabaret is performed.

travel and See The World While Helping People in Need!!

"Lakwatsera" which is called in English "adventurer or traveler", that's how my friends back in the Philippines always called me. I could still remember especially in my College time that I always escaped house work to go with classmates and friends mountain climbing, visit interesting towns nearby, go camping or just simply do some escapades anywhere. I miss those days in my life.

It is always my dream to visit and see interesting countries or places. Slowly by slowly that dream is coming true. If you just have the will and the aspirations, I believed all your dreams will come true. I just got back from my 2 months vacation from Unites States. And yes, I had a great and quality time there!!

Frankfurt, Germany

Just this afternoon as me and my husband had a coffee time, I happened to read this advertisement over the newspaper about special offer vacation. My husband planned to have a 2-weeks vacation leave next month. I told him that we can probably take a trip either to Prague, Paris or Rome. The cities that I targeted to visit this year. I'm happy that my husband agreed with me. see you then dream cities!!

feeding the pigeons in Venice, Italy

Travelling without proper plan is quite stressful. I had tried it last year and I guess I don't want to do it anymore. Before we will make a vacation this time, I will see to it that I make a Hotel Reservation first before we travel. I guess, I found a perfect site for this. Hotels Combined is quite very easy to navigate. Once you visit their site, all you need to do is type in the country or city you wish to visit including the possible dates and Bingo!! they will provide you with all the details of the hotels, compares price for you, type/description of hotels and more!! Sounds very easy and convenient.

What catches my attention, is that I read an article at http://guide1.blogspot.com/ that Hotels Combined supports organizations like Leukaemia Foundation and World Vision. This is the first time that I read such a travel website that helps people in need. How would you like to travel now and help other people too!!! Save your money and time!!Visit their site now and Enjoy your trip!!!
