Canal Cruise in Amsterdam

It was not really a bad idea cruising on the Canals of Amsterdam. This is one of the best way to see the largest and capital city of Netherlands. That is also the reason why we did it and it was truly great. We also had fun.

Due to its more than one hundred kilometers of canals, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges, Amsterdam has been called the "Venice of the North". I can see the similarity of Amsterdam and Venice because I was also in Venice thrice.

The three main canals, Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city, known as the grachtengordel. The 17th-century canal ring area, including the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Jordaan, were placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010.

Cruising in Amsterdam Canals

It seems like yesterday when we visited Amsterdam. It is the largest city and the capital of Netherlands. It is one of the historical cities in Europe and has one of the largest historic centers registering about 7,000 historic buildings.

During our visit last summer 2010, we took a cruise which started near Heineken Experience, a famous brewery in Amsterdam. The cruise was very interesting. It is one of the best thing to see most of the city especially in seeing its historical canals. Due to its over one hundred kilometers of canals, Amsterdam is named as the "Venice of the North."

I and my friend Nonna, had the chance to cruise the Amsterdam canals last August 2010.

The three main canals, Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city, known as the grachtengordel. Alongside the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings. The 17th-century canal ring area, including the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Jordaan, are put on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Dam is a town square in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. Its notable buildings and frequent events make it one of the most well-known and important locations in the city.

Amsterdam is part of the province of North-Holland and is located in the west of the Netherlands next to the provinces of Utrecht and Flevoland. The river Amstel terminates in the city centre and connects to a large number of canals that eventually terminate in the IJ. Amsterdam is situated 2 metres above sea level.

Sightseeing in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of Netherlands. Unlike any other cities in Europe, you cannot find here a single Roman ruin, not even a Romanesque church or cathedral, no trace of Charlemagne. In other words, nothing!

But there are a lot of things to experience in this city. Some of it include seeing its museums, cruising in its canals, seeings its architecture and yes, shopping too! I forgot to look for Iphone 4 wood cases. I just remember that since they are famous for its wooden sandals, I expect to also find here wood cases for Iphones.

I bought with me again some travel souvenirs from Amsterdam. This image here is one of the souvenir shops where I bought some travel memorabilia.

I also would like you to know that Amsterdam is a city built entirely by rich traders and lovers of beauty.

Cruising Amsterdam Canals in Netherlands

If you are planning to visit Amsterdam, I suggest that you better take a cruise in its canal. They have this so-called water taxi and it is one of the best ways to see and discover this city. Amsterdam is the capital city of Netherlands. It derived its name from Amstellerdam, a dam in the river Amstel. Due to the 17th century Grachtengordel or canals of Amsterdam, it belong now to the list of UNESCO World Heritage since July 2010.

Amsterdam is part of the province of North-Holland and is located in the west of the Netherlands next to the provinces of Utrecht and Flevoland. The surrounding land is flat as it is formed of large polders. To the southwest of the city lies a man-made forest called het Amsterdamse Bos. Amsterdam is connected to the North Sea through the long North Sea Canal.

Amsterdam is intensely urbanized, as is the Amsterdam metropolitan area surrounding the city. Comprising 219.4 square kilometres of land, the city proper has 4,457 inhabitants per km2 and 2,275 houses per km2. Parks and nature reserves make up 12% of Amsterdam's land area.

Cruising in Amsterdam Canals

Let's go travel Europe again! It seems that I was asleep for some days and was not able to update this blog. I am back now and I will take you to the capital and largest city of Netherlands. To give you a little information about Amsterdam, it derived its name from Amstellerdam, a dam in the river Amstel. This city is also considered to be the financial and cultural center of Netherlands.

I would suggest that when you visit this city, you better take a cruise in its canals. It is one of the best way to see and experience the city. A tour guide will also explain the sights you will be passing while cruising. We also made a cruise during our trip last August 2010.

Don't you know that Netherlands has a lot of canals? It seems that it looks like Venice in Italy where you can also see a lot of canals and bridges around the city. To name the main canals of Amsterdam include Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. The 17th century canals of Amsterdam were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2010.

Planning A Trip To Amsterdam

Have you heard about Keukenhof? Do you know the biggest flower garden in the world?Spring Time is almost coming! You know what I mean guys when spring time comes. The past days, I already see some tulips growing again in our garden. I got different kinds of tulips and I love them.

Last time I was browsing for cheap hotels in amsterdam. You know why? Amsterdan especially in Keukenhof is very famous for its flower garden. In fact Keukenhof being known as the "Garden of Europe" is also the biggest flower garden in the world! Very amazing!

I already saw some photos from a friend who went there last year. I was truly amazed by the lovely and very beautiful scenery of the gardens. Before going there, I need to book a hotel in amsterdam. I need to find the cheapest if possible. The best way to find it is surfing in the net.

I have been planning to visit this capital city of Netherlands but I have to go first to Paris. My friend already book a trip for me and my husband. Anyway, anytime this year, I might check in at park hotel amsterdam. I guess the price is not so bad for a 4 star hotel! I'll see you soon Amsterdam!

Amsterdam, the capital city of Netherlands is the the fifth busiest tourist destination in Europe. Millions of visitors come to this romantic city to experience the fun, excitement and to see the beautiful sightseeing here. Amsterdam is also called the city of festivals with around 140 festivals every year. Amsterdam is also very rich in terms of architectural history. Its oldest building called het Houten which is built around 1425 is made of wood and still exist until now. Amsterdam airport is also known to be one of the busiest airport in Europe. I guess it is also because of the cheap prices given by airlines especially the ones departing from UK.

I am planning to visit my friend in Birmingham on his birthday this coming October. She had been inviting me since last year but due to some unavoidable circumstances, I wasn't able to go. Well, my husband had accident last year so I have to take care of him. Hopefully if I am coming to Birmingham, I want to go directly to Amsterdam. I am searching now for cheap Amsterdam flights departing from Birmingham.

I just visited Directline and they offer Amsterdam flights which is really very competitive. You can even have cheaper flights if you book it earlier. With British Airlines and Aer Lingus, you can even have cheap flights due to too much competition with cheap airline companies.

You can also find cheap flights to Amsterdam from any cities in UK like East Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds Bradford and more. It is even cheaper if you leave from small airports like Nottingham, Durham Tees, Exeter, Southampton and Norwich.

Keukenhof (pronounced [ˈkøːkənˌhɔf], in Dutch: Kitchen garden), also known as the Garden of Europe is situated near Lisse, Netherlands, and is the world's largest flower garden. According to the official website for the Keukenhof Park, there are approximately 7,000,000 (seven million) flower bulbs planted annually at the park.

Keukenhof is located in South Holland between the towns of Hillegom and Lisse, south of Haarlem and southwest of Amsterdam. It is accessible by bus from the stations of Haarlem or Leiden. It is located in an area called the "Dune and Bulb Region" (Duin- en Bollenstreek).

The flower garden was the idea in 1949 of the then-mayor of Lisse, a small town south of Amsterdam. The idea was to have a flower exhibit where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could show off their hybrids which will help the Netherlands as it is the world's largest exporter of flowers. Keukenhof has been the world's largest flower garden for over fifty years.

Keukenhof is open annually from the last week of March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather. In 2008 the Keukenhof will be open from March 20 to May 18.
