Having Fun in Straubing's Gäubodenvolksfest

The festival is over! I heard over the radio last Monday that around 1.4 millions guests, tourists and locals who visited the second largest genuine folk festival in Bavaria. Gäubodenvolksfest is only second to the world's most famous Oktoberfest. I love the atmosphere better in Gäubodenvolksfest than the latter. It is more family-friendly and more people are wearing Dirndl and Lederhose.

 I told some friends that this festival is a good one and there are a lot of things to experience there both for young and old ones. The so-called Ostbayernschau is also held together with the festival. It is considered as the biggest fair trade of eastern Bavaria. I visited this festival last 2010 and I did not know that there is a big hall on the other side of the festival area, where you can find various stalls selling different products. I happened to know about it because I was looking for a washroom and it is found in that hall.

I told my friends that there were some products in the big hall. As we go around, we found this stall that sells jewelry of all kinds. One of friends ended up buying sterling silver jewelry and some precious stones. The other one bought stainless steel jewelry and other accessories. I only bought a sterling silver earring with a ruby stone in it. I love it and it is nicer as the one I bought in Turkey.

After our shopping escapade, we walk around again for children's ride. One of my friends brought with her her two children. We also tasted some foods, ice cream, etc. Since we have to catch the train at 8:00 PM, we hurry up to the train station to go back home.

I had fun during that day and I would love to visit Gäubodenvolksfest again and again!

The little brother of Oktoberfest is almost coming.  I was once  in  Gaubodenvolksfest, a famous festival held every month of August in Straubing. This city is located in lower Bavaria in the southern part of Germany.

Gaubodenvolksfest  is  considered to be the second largest fair in Bavaria, Germany.  This might  probably be the reason why it is called as the little brother of Oktoberfest. I love going to the German festivals because from there, I love listening to the live bands inside the beer tents. I love their sound systems.  One of the live bands in this festival   might be using an EV cab, a kind of powerful speaker.  I  also love tasting  German foods when I go to festivals  like these.

When you are in  Bavaria, Germany  this coming August 10-20, 2012, you might want to visit this  agricultural festival. It is truly worth to experience.

Welcome to the second largest festival in Bavaria, Germany, the Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing. Actually guys this festival is already over. It is considered to be the second largest festival next to Oktoberfest of October Festival in Munich in the state of Bavaria. It is said that there are more than a million of guests and visitors who visit this festival every year. It is held in the middle of August and lasted for eleven days.

What caught most of my attention as we visited the festival was, a lot of German people wore the so-called Trachten, Dirdl and Lederhose which are considered to be the national costume of Germany. I also visited Oktoberfest in Munich last year but there were more people last month in Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing who wore Trachten, Dirdl and Lederhose or leather pants in this festival.

I truly appreciate and admire how the German people preserve their culture and tradition through festivals like these. More updates to come about this famous festival in Bavaria.

The Gäubodenvolksfest was founded by Maximilian I Joseph, King of Bavaria in the year 1812 as an agricultural festival to organize an annual meeting of the people in the Danube region.

My Euro Travel in Gaeubodenvolksfest in Straubing, Germany

Yesterday was such a wonderful day and a perfect weather as the Gaeubodenvolksfest is celebrated in Straubing, a city in Bavaria, Germany. Before we went to the festival site, we go around first to the "Altstadt" or old city of Straubing. I saw again a lot of historical buildings, monuments, churches and architectures which I love. After spending around two hours in the old city, we proceeded to the festival which is around ten minutes walk from the old city.

At the festival, there is also a show that is going on until today. It is called the Ostbayernschau. Here you can see a lot of stuffs that are for sale and being displayed. There are some companies that sell motorhome, household supplies and equipments, garden machines, hardware products, cars, motorcycles, handmade products, horse accessories, clothes and a lot more.

This festival is considered to the second largest public festival in the state of Bavaria, Germany. There are also beer tents, a lot of games and entertainments, food kiosks, variety of rides like ferris wheel, free fall, helicopter, octopus and a lot more. That was a very interesting festival in Straubing which will last until tomorrow. Here are some photos I have from yesterday's weekend escapades.
