Overnight in Hilton Zurich

What can you say about autumn season? Typical weather in our place is cold, very cold and sometimes freezing cold. Any complain about that. It is also getting dark at around 5:00pm. We have to accept this fact especially if we are living in a land where this weather is typical. No matter what we are still here to savour and enjoy life!

That is one of the reason why I am sharing a bit about our trip to Zurich, Switzerland last year. It was almost a year now since we had a trip to this city. It was a great one because for less money we stayed in one of the good hotels there. I cannot complain because that trip cost only around 159.00 Euros including a room in Hilton Zurich, bus trip (back and forth from Regensburg, Germany) and sightseeing in Strasbourg and Zurich as well. Breakfast in Hilton hotel was also included.

We were able to visit two cities in two European countries, that was amazing.

our room in Hilton Zurich. not really that big but enough for an overnight sleep. somebody's smiling out there! lol!

the entrance to the hotel..This was taken during our trip last December 2010.

Europe Trip to Zurich, Switzerland

I am happy to visit one of Europe's interesting cities. Zurich is the capital of the canton of Zurich. It is also the largest city of Switzerland. The airport and the railway station are the largest and busiest in the country.

When traveling a certain city or country, we must need to know the emergency assistance numbers. Zurich's Police emergency telephone number is 117, Fire department is 118 and Ambulance is 144. Anywhere in Europe, the SOS number is 112. This can be dialled to reach emergency services - medical, fire and police - from anywhere in Europe. This Pan-European emergency number 112 can be called from any telephone (landline, pay phone or mobile cellular phone). Calls are free.

Here is one of the images I took during our visit last December 2010 in Zurich.

My Euro Travel in Zurich, Switzerland

I want to go back to Zurich, Switzerland through the images I took during our visit last December 2010. Don't you know that Zurich is considered to be the wealthiest city in Europe according to several surveys from 2006-2008. No wonder, you can find here a lot of company headquarters from giant banks to any financial institution.

Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and it is also considered as a global city. It is a historical city dating back to 15 BC. No wonder, it is also a very interesting city to visit in Europe.

The Grossmünster (Grossmuenster) in Zurich is a 12th-century Romanesque cathedral found in the heart of the city.

The River Limmat that flows within the city of Zurich. They had a marathon during our visit last December 2010. You can also see the church tower of St Peterskirche (St. Peter's Church). It was built in the 9th century and is the oldest church in Zurich. Its clock face is considered to be the largest in Europe.

My Europe Travel in Zurich, Switzerland

I had finally visited Zurich in Switzerland! But first of all I want to thank God for bringing us safe home from our trip to Zurich and Strasbourg, France. It was another memorable and interesting trip.

To begin with some information about Switzerland;
It is not a member of the European Union but a member of Schengen Agreement.
It is located in western Europe.
Just like Belgium, it is a landlocked country where it is bordered by Germany to the north, France to the west, Italy to the south, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east.
Its monetary unit is Swiss franc (Sfr) which is divided in 100 rappen. The banknotes are in 10,20,50,100,200 and 1,000 francs. The coins are in 1,2 and 5 frans as well as 5,10,20 and 50 rappen.

I wish to share more about Switzerland next time.

For now, I wanted to share about Zurich.
It is the capital of the canton of Zurich and is the largest city of Switzerland. It is considered to be a leading global city and among the world's largest financial centers. It is also known to be the wealthiest city in Europe. That is probably the reason why I was amazed how expensive to go shopping in this city.

I was shopping for souvenirs during our visit and I was surprised because the prices are double and even triple compared to the other cities I had visited in Europe. The food are also double the price compared to Germany. So far, it is the most expensive city I visited in Europe.

I guess it is getting late now. I will share more about Zurich in my future post. Here are some of the images I took during our visit last December 12, 2010.

taken at the Christmas market in Zurich. It is an indoor Christmas market located in the train station hall. It is also the biggest indoor Christmas market in Europe and I believed in the whole world also.
The two towers of the Grossmünster Cathedral, the iconic landmark of Zurich.

That building right at the end of the bridge is the Fraumünster abbey of Zürich. It was founded in 853 by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard. He endowed the Benedictine convent with the lands of Zürich, Uri, and the Albis forest, and granted the convent immunity, placing it under his direct authority.

we had an overnight at the Hilton Zurich Airport. It was quite a nice accommodation.
